Job Overview
The Creative Design Manager will play a key role in contributing creative design, direction and digital marketing strategy for all communications initiatives for The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division. This role will advance The Salvation Army’s mission by increasing awareness and fundraising, and by providing creative graphic design support to the Development Department.
In addition, this role will assist with the Division’s comprehensive social media strategy to increase visibility, membership and traffic across all Salvation Army channels. This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Division’s website, as well as multiple related sites and landing pages. Responsible for maintaining digital platforms and training other users on digital fundraising platforms. Provides technical assistance and support to non-technical personnel in the integration and creation of content and usage of a content management system.
Responsibilities
Graphic Design
- Develop print and digital materials to support Division-wide initiatives (brochures, postcards, signage, social media graphics, t-shirts, ads, etc.)
- Provide graphics and design support to staff and officers across the Division
- Update existing promotional materials and provide branded templates Division-wide
- Develop new logo designs for various initiatives
- Edit video and shoot photos on and off-site at events across the Division
- Create and implement strategy for collecting images for inclusion on web pages and in creative materials
- Manage, label and archive photos and videos
- Locate appropriate imagery, when necessary, from existing records or stock photos
- Communicate with printing companies to inquire about quotes, place orders and ensure all files are print-ready and compatible
- Save working templates and design files on The Salvation Army network
Website Management
- Design user-friendly and timely digital content
- Refresh and update content as necessary and maintain/update design of event and initiative specific landing pages
- Create individual donation pages for each Corps/service center by request
- Provide progress reports including traffic and social media statistics on a regular/quarterly basis
- Generate accurate QR codes for marketing materials
- Coordinate with WTAE-TV to update project Bundle-Up online Auction page, as well as other external stakeholders as necessary
- Attend regular departmental and Division/Territory-wide calls and meetings
Digital Fundraising
- Design and implement all online fundraising efforts including enewsletters, evites, microsites and digital donation appeals
- Maintain database driven applications, forms and systems to support digital initiatives
- Create reports to quickly sort and filter desired donation records and/or registrations
- Run reports and distribute to appropriate parties for all Red Shield Campaign initiatives throughout the year, as well as other initiatives for internal and external constituents
- Direct oversight of the online Red Kettle system
Social Media
- Assist in the Division’s comprehensive social media strategy to increase visibility, membership and traffic all across platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and other emerging platforms)
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and PR to create and upload content on branded social media platforms
- Monitor all branded pages and respond to questions and inquiries in a timely matter
- Monitor trends and review user-generated content surrounding The Salvation Army brand
- Create and update engagement and traffic reports on a quarterly and as needed basis
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent design (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and nonlinear video editing skills (Adobe Premiere, iMovie)
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Dreamweaver)
- Experience with online content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, or similar)
- Understanding of optimization of graphics for both digital and print
- Experience with social media management systems (Facebook Business Manager, Hootsuite, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of current digital marketing trends and tools
- Exceptional writing and editing skills
- Excellent analytical ability, attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Strong communicator, ability to interact and work with employees and stakeholders from all levels of the organization
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, (including Word, PowerPoint and Forms)
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and balance projects
- Proven problem-solving skills – must be resourceful and creative with solutions
- Knowledge of search engine optimization
- Understanding of File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
- Passion for social media and an in-depth understanding of social media strategy
- Must be flexible, able to adapt and complete projects the same day as assigned and/or after hours (when needed)
Education & Experience
- Minimum three to five years of graphic design experience, ideally within an agency or nonprofit setting
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and/or related field (concentration or accreditation in the field of marketing or communications is a plus)
