Meet Strong Women, Strong Girls

“Inside every girl is strength, creativity, inquisitiveness, and a powerful voice.”

Our Partnership with SWSG

PRSA Pittsburgh is supporting Strong Women, Strong Girls Pittsburgh as it navigates its shift to a digital event and fundraiser — the Strong Awards — due to the coronavirus pandemic. Funds raised during the Strong Awards, SWSG’s annual fundraiser, typically account for 20-30% of the organization’s operations revenue. This underscores the importance of making this event successful, and PRSA Pittsburgh is proud to help.

Funds raised during the Strong Awards will help SWSG Pittsburgh deliver high-quality programming to its community virtually throughout the summer and into the fall. SWSG is also creating activity boxes for select sites so their girls have all the resources they need to participate from home.

2020 Strong Awards

The 2020 Strong Awards honors women, girls, and advocates who have made an impact or service in the community and are dedicated to the advancement of mentorship for women and girls. Funds raised during the Strong Awards directly benefit SWSG Pittsburgh’s virtual mentorship programming for elementary school girls, adapted in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event featured two keynote speakers who are advocates for women and opportunities for women in the workplace: Susan Jin Davis, Chief Sustainability Officer at Comcast NBCUniversal and Grace Killelea, CEO and Founder at GKC Group.

Community Impacts

  • Income

Almost half of the girls in SWSG live in households earning less than $27,799 per year.

  • Confidence

In just one semester of the program, girls show a statistically significant improvement in confidence.

  • Parent Feedback

90% of responding parents share that their daughter got better at resolving conflict peacefully and 86% saying their daughter helped more often as a result of the program.

  • Self-Affirmation

This year alone, 97% of responding parents said their daughters’ belief that they could make an impact on their community increased because of participation in SWSG.
